Research
I am interested in how the Eurocentric notion of the savage is used in Western discourse and how literary scholars and critics try to dismantle the notion of the savage in the last seventy years. Their efforts include the structuralist attempt, the post-structuralist attempt, the multiculturalist attempt, and the decolonial attempt. I am interested in how these attempts deal with the savage and how they lead to one another in a row. However, it turns out that it is almost impossible to eradicate the savage, since it is regarded as the indispensable opposite part of the civilized. I would argue that the reason for the failure to dismantle the notion of the savage is that it keeps haunting Western discourse as living ghosts.
